I.  Course Overview

 

A. The Purpose of this course is to introduce divers and snorkellers to the world’s largest fish.  Divers will become familiar with the proper techniques for diving with and among whale sharks with minimal impact on the sharks’ habitat and behavior.  Training will emphasize fun and safety.

 

II. Requirements

 

A. Prerequisite certification:  PADI Open Water Diver or an equivalent rating.  The instructor is to ensure that the individual can perform the skills required of a PADI Open Water Diver.

 

B. Minimum age requirement: 10 years (Note special requirements for 10-11 year olds below)

     

         1.  Prior to the start of a Whale Shark Diver course, both parent and child must watch        the Youth Diving: Responsibility and Risks video.  Both must read and sign the Youth     Diving: Responsibility and Risks acknowledgement form.

 

C. The course does not include confined water training unless otherwise stated by the instructor. 

 

 

D.      Dive Data

  

         1.  The course consists of two scuba dives.

         2.  The recommended depth for the dives is 5-18 meters.  The maximum depth for 10-11 year old Junior Open Water Divers during this course will not exceed 12 meters.
